How Freight Factoring Works
Freight factoring is accounts receivable financing designed for transportation companies. It provides working capital to cover expenses such as driver salaries, fuel and vehicle maintenance without waiting 30 to 60 days for freight bills to be paid. Commercial Finance Partners assesses your client’s credit, verifies shipping documents and advances a percentage of the invoice value.
Freight factors typically buy an invoice at a 2% to 5% discount to its value, and many let you access 75% to 90% of the invoice early. Commercial Finance Partners advances 90%+ on eligible receivables, funded from our own balance sheet. When you start working with a freight factoring company, it will inform your brokers to direct payment to the factor, and it takes on the responsibility of sending the invoice to the broker and collecting on it.

Recourse vs. Non-Recourse Freight Factoring
In a recourse agreement, a freight factoring company can collect money from you if your broker cannot pay, for example when the broker goes bankrupt. Non-recourse plans tend to be more expensive and restrictive, and they do not protect you against late payments.
